The art of Submission

(March 2016, I learnt submission to God will through devastating events)

Happy New year reader, May God cause you to prosper immensely as you submit to his will. Maybe one of these days l will share with you what happened to me last year that transformed my life. There was purpose in my pain and l learnt to submit to God. So the past few days God has been really pressing my heart to share about submission.

Jesus Christ the son of God demonstrates his submission to God in various occasions throughout his time on earth. One occasion we find in (Matthew 27:50 AMP), it says that Jesus voluntarily, sovereignly dismissed his spirit from his body in submission to his Father’s plan. If you read on in that chapter you find that as soon as he did that heaven responded immediately. I believe that the moment you truly submit to God your life will never be the same again.

Submission to God must therefore be a voluntary act, a complete go ahead to God, to his purposes and his will. My main focus today is James 4:7 AMP, it is written

“Submit to (the Authority of God) Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

For the longest time l can testify that the part l knew mostly  from James 4:7 was about resisting the devil. But God began to speak to me about this verse. Many at times we want the devil to flee from our finances, our families, our lives but we haven’t submitted to the authority of God first.

Usually we like to act against the will of God and then not want to face the consequences. For example “How can you not give a tenth of your offering and then want to rebuke the devourer? You don’t want to submit to God’s commands about giving but you want to resist the devil in your finances.

Dear reader when you give way to God hence submission you have a cover against the devil. God becomes your cover. Some demons and evil spirits will never flee unless you submit to God. Lack of obedience to God , lack of yielding to his will, leads to you not having a cover. You try to resist the enemy and he keeps returning to you.

The verses that lead to verse 7 of James 4 talk about things to avoid, even naming the generation that is friends with the world an adulterous generation. It flirts with the world, refuses to submit to God’s ways hence it becomes an enermy to God.

You may be asking well how do l submit to God, well first if you haven’t received Jesus Christ in your heart and made him your Lord and Saviour you need to by praying the prayer of Salvation. If you are already saved then repent before the Lord.

Ultimately, allowing the yourself to continuously live by the spirit, being guided by the spirit, its will and purpose will help you and is the art of submission.  Romans 8:7

You see, the mind of the flesh is actually hostile to God and it is unable to submit to God, as it pursues sin and to gratify the needs of the flesh.

You however live by the spirit! You will resist the devil in the name of Jesus Christ the son of the living God, in whom you are submitted to, in whom you live, breathe and have your being.

Now l always say l am not perfect, l write this to share as God would have pressed on my heart to. I am also learning the art of submission.

I hope you are encouraged to submit your ways to God.

The struggle is real but God is Stronger…

There is something about the human nature that seeks to be accepted. To fit in and to feel loved. When it comes to doing God’s will that can be a hinderance.

I have come to the realisation that the struggle is real. This is because we have an enemy the devil who is in this world and he will fight you, making you afraid of being an ambassador of Christ Jesus.

It seems people love you more when you do what they are comfortable with.  Now this determines wether you do the will of God  or not. The fear of being judged or being too different.

People will always have something to say wether you do something or not. The truth is that when you are in Christ you are a partaker of his sufferings 1 Peter 4:13, In as much as we also share in his Glory. If the world hated Jesus, it will also hate those who stand for him.

An understanding of this truth will help you in your walk with Christ Jesus. You know that it’s going to be hard, people will not always agree with you. What matters is that you complete your assignment and that you know your actions are not in vain.  God rewards those who deligently seek him Heb 11:6.

Now the secret is knowing the power that is available to you at the cross in the name of Jesus Christ son of the living God.  It’s  your unshaken faith in the knowledge that you can overcome any struggle as Jesus overcome. In this world you will have trouble but take heart Jesus has overcome the world, John 16:33.

I pray that you are encouraged and that you stand for God by doing his will. Knowing that his divine power has given us everything we need to overcome and live a life that glorifies God. 2 Peter 1:3

Fight and win !!

What determines your self-worth? My Story

IMG_0042

Me on 11/02/2012. Looking for fulfilment in material things. 😦

Peace and joy to everyone reading this. To be honest, I am both excited and terrified about writing my first blog. See, having always been one to keep to myself its rather a dreadful experience, but God has been instructing me to do his will . That includes being open and honest and that is daunting as I become vulnerable.

But listen, I have come to the realisation that it is better to please God that human beings. God is my everything and if I must be a fool for him then so be it. No pretending, just me. See the world is full of pretenders, even Christians these days, everyone seems to have it all put together.  The word of God says in  2 Corinthians 12 verse 9 ..But he said to me, ”  My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in your weakness”… So if we pretend to be strong then we may also say we don’t need God. Because his strength is made perfect in our weakness. But, that’s not what we are talking about today is it 😊?

So here goes my story, well part of it anyways . My name as you probably know is Shalom, which means peace and guess what that is exactly what the devil has fought so much that I may never experience. From the age of 5 , I had struggled with self-worth, so much so that it became a deep wound in me that never healed. It controlled my actions, my personality , basically it became me.

I became afraid of everything, felt unworthy, hated myself, put a wall around myself, became defensive and threw myself pity parties 😂. The problem was I never shared it with anyone, never let God work on it until just recently.

How did this all start ?All I can remember is that at a 5yrs old I lived with so many relatives, my parents worked a lot and were hardly home. These relatives constantly spoke of how ugly they thought I was, how they thought I would never amount to anything. Honestly I don’t blame them it was the plan of the devil. He was set on destroying me from a young age.

From then that’s all I seemed to hear, failure , defeat, ugly and It seemed to go on forever. Unfortunately I began to believe it, growing up I started to search for ways to find my self-worth.

I became trapped, was defined by people and was always seeking approval from people, if not I would just keep to myself in fear of rejection and offence. Listen, I was a mess, but I covered it up never accepted the problem, and became a victim. I began to look for self worth in possessions, in relationships, and broke people’s hearts as no one would ever have the right words.

What I needed was God. No one can take God’s place in your life. There is a void in all of us that only God can fill. See there is no victory in being a victim. Friends, let us look to God , let us have a relationship with him. It is our relationship with him, our knowing him that brings us victory and freedom from chains.

Our worth comes from God, Philippians 3:3 says …we glory ourselves in Jesus Christ and put no confidence in the flesh, outward appearances, physical advantages and external appearances. The Bible also says in Philippians 4:13 that we are sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency. So our worth, our strength, the definition of who we are comes from him. Your worth does not come from how many likes you get, how you look, what you own, neither does it come from who you are in a relationship with. No friends our worth comes from God, who loved us so much, saw us as worthy for his son Jesus Christ to be slain for our sakes. God actually set us apart, choose us, loved us and destined us.

So my Question is What determines your self worth?

Now thanks be to God I am free from those chains  that bound me for years. I know that I am fearfully and wonderfully made(Psalms 139:14), I am loved by God and my worth comes from him. Same as to you reader, if you need healing from any area of your life. Allow God to be your friend and have a truthful relationship with him. May God’s sufficient grace be with you.

How to press Forward.

IMG_20160401_192646[1]

Over the years I have struggled to press forward, to becoming who God created me to be. I allowed situations, words of people and even fear to bring me backward. To be able to move and improve as I have now learnt we have to look to Jesus Christ our Lord who is the author and the finisher of our faith as the word of God says. (Hebrews 12:2) If  we look at ourselves we become weary, but if we fix our eyes on Jesus who for our sakes took all the insults and all the pain. We see that we have not even suffered that much , Christ suffered for us even unto death at the cross for us.

Now, pressing towards as Paul says in Philippians 3:12, should be because you want to take hold of that which Jesus Christ took hold for you. There are three steps that we are going to expand on as God revealed to me in answer to “How”?                                                                                          1) Forgetting  what is behind.   I can truly testify that as long as you hold on to the past you can not move forward. As long as I held on to the words of people who had told me I was ugly I could not see the beauty. The Israelites could not cross over as long as they looked back at what they had in Egypt. Don’t let the past have power over your life. It says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: the old has gone, the new has come! So why would you hang onto old baggage, let it go, forget and take a step forward.                                                                                                                                                                                       2) Straining towards what is ahead. Now straining in itself doesn’t sound like an easy process. It is actually defined as an act of force and exerting unusual effort. Now friends we have to put in the effort and God will give us the grace and the power. We have to strain past how we feel, past the pain, offense or anything that hinders us from continuing our walk in Jesus Christ our Lord. I remember days when I would cry confessing the word of God. See the devil had lied to me so deeply that to undo those lies I had to strain using the word of God confessing that I can do all things through Christ and that I am loved by God. Take a leap of faith and strain towards what is ahead.

  3) Press towards the goal to win the prize. Now once you are past the straining stage you know what is right, you know what you are fighting for and why it is of great importance that you move forward and improve. You then press on to those goals that you desire to attain. It is the art of continuation and consistency that make up pressing on. Whatever it is that you are called by God to do, if it is giving, serving or encouraging,  keep at it, press on no matter how hard it gets. There is a prize waiting for us , a crown of glory, the eternal life that Jesus Christ gave us. Paul went through hardships yet he still pressed on as he wanted to take hold of that which Jesus Christ took hold for us.

Dear ones the calling we have as children of the Living God is heavenward, it is not downwards nor is it backwards. We are of heaven,we press forward. I get tested on every word I am given. Everyday I have to work on these steps too as I work on my salvation. Hoping that this encourages someone, I know I needed it too.

Forever  a child of God
