The reason Why?

There are many times l have done things out of habit without really thinking about what I was doing.

The past year God took me into some situations where l had to ask myself why l go to church, why do l pray and why do l sing.

I was born and raised in the church, for me Sunday was a day to go to church, l had never not gone to church on Sunday it’s something we did. I would feel terrible if l didn’t.
So when things began to get hard, so much that all l knew was shattered. The people l used to go to church with left. The things l used to do easily became harder. I had to put more effort, travel longer, pray more, my friends had left. I wanted to quit.

And God asked me Why? God was looking to change my way of thinking and living, my way of serving. See l had become religious. I had good intentions but l didn’t please God. I was more concerned about people than l was with what God wanted. Realising this shook me.
God had begun a process of changing my why..

Your why should always include the fact that you love God. Your motive should always come back to God.

To worship him because we love him. To go to church to hear his word and to worship him together with others.

There is no love without sacrifice. When things get hard, don’t quit before asking yourself why. See because deep down l did love God, l wanted to please him. So if my reason for going to church was because l had friends and family there then when they left l would leave too.

If my reason for giving, for loving and serving God was because it was easy when it got hard then l would give up.
God wants you, your heart and your love. And l honestly believe God deserves that, he deserves being served in honesty. Situations are not always ideal and that doesn’t mean God is not there.

So l vowed to worship God wether happy or sad.

Do l encounter difficulties yes,                 Do
l find myself alone at times yes,        Do people misunderstand at times yes.

But the reason l serve God is because l love him and he is worthy of all of me. God is God, the creator of heaven and earth.

I began a journey to finding out who God is to me.  I can testify that as soon as l changed my Why, my life has never been the same. There is meaning and purpose in my life now.

I believe that is why God says in John 4:23

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

God seeks people to worship him in spirit and in truth, our way of serving is an art of worship, and when we serve him with the right reasons we please him.

Challenge your reasons Why?

I hope this encourages you

Creating an atmosphere where the word and the voice of God can be heard …

2 Kings 3 vrs 10 -15
So this story always gives me the greatest inspiration and my desire is to be a not just a song leader but a Minstrel

Many times we get to praise and worship and we lose sight of the purpose and the power that is in this segment. Not only is this the only segment that is entirely for God, it is in there also he is found as it says in Psalms 23:2, God inhabits in the praises of his people. So even while we are praising we should connect with him as we are giving him praise not only in worship.

Back to the story in 2 Kings 3:11 we find that Elisha the prophet had been called to a dilemma and these kings wanted him to enquire of the Lord and give them an answer . We see then in verse 15 that before Elisha could hear from God he asked for a Minstrel. The bible says as the minstrel played, the hand and power of God came upon Elisha and he prophesied.

It is our job as worshippers including instrumentalists to create such atmospheres, to praise God with such revelation and love that we touch his heart . In such atmospheres nothing is impossible. I wouldn’t want to stand in the way of God’s will, we can actually hinder the presence of God, even hinder his word from being spoken.

There is so much to praise and worship that goes beyond us. It’s important that we know we are not entertainers. We are Minstrels. We aim to touch the heart of God with our sincerity, our love for him and unshaken faith in him. Let’s strive to go further in our praise and worship for him.

Much love

Shalom
